Dividing Line

Due to the present position relating to the spread of the Covid-19 virus research in Public Repositories has been suspended.

Research or advise, however, can still be provided using other online etc. methods.

Some Public Research Facilities have closed (see below) until a specific date on or after the 29 March 2020 or until further notice. Their online services are still available.

The following searches, in public records, are carried out by MC Research:-

     Legal and Family history research.

  • full searches including the production of photocopies or certified copies of records obtained.

  • searches made of individual records. In addition, for people of Irish ancestry, it is possible to do some research abroad in mainly records for England, Scotland, Wales, the USA, Canada and Australia.

  • reports, charts and family histories prepared when information proven in records.

  • Research undertaken for obtaining and making application for Irish Citizenship through descent.

This requires certification proving descent from an ancestor, in general, no further back than a grandparent born on the island of Ireland. It can be of use not only for family history purposes but for persons desiring to do business or study in the EU.
Further information as to who is eligible to apply can be seen on official website of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs.

     Historical research.

  • Specialising on civil history especially on townlands, local government and public sector areas and on County Louth.

  • This includes research for house and place histories and place name searches.

Both can be of value to background reporting on an area for development purposes, tourist routes etc.. The County Louth section of this website includes details on the type of information available that can be expanded on.

If you find any of the information on this website of help in your own research please recognise the source as this is a private business.

Due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus the Public Research rooms in the main Repositories below may be closed or limited:-
